I thought I read somewhere that the deer fly cycle runs about 4-5 weeks. We are going on 8 weeks with these pests here in Wisconsin. I usually enjoy a good run through my woods, but these pests have made it almost impossible. I am afraid to use deet when I go running as it would be absorbed through my skin really fast, and may be unhealthy for me. Is there any other products on the market that are natural or organic that would keep these pests off of me? How much longer am I going to have to put up with these pests? This is the worst season I can recall for them.

Get the hat with the mesh on it and where some light clothes that has the Deet on it. God I hate deer flies. Try going down to Florida to check out the no-see-ums. They fly through screens and feel like hundreds of pin pricks. My eyes swelled shut due to an allergic reaction. Stay in windy areas if you can.

I also live in Wisconsin. It has been my experience that the pesky critters hang around until about August 15. I think their cycle is more like 8-10 weeks than 4-5 weeks since they show up by the middle of June or even earlier.

Jung's seed catalog did have a strip of stick-on stuff you could put on the back of a light colored hat and catch most of them that come after you. I have some of those and they seem to work pretty well. Don't know if Jung's still has them or not. I think you could google them. They are a Wisconsin company.
