You shouldn’t be expected to bring your shot records to a doctor’s appointment, especially if you are only 16! If he has been your doctor for any length of time he or she should have those records.
I’m not sure if the doctor not explaining anything to you is weird or not. He may think he is explaining it to you, but sometimes they speak in a way that is hard to understand. Or he may have talked to your parents about it, but in my opinion this does not excuse him for talking to you too. You have the right to know what you are given, before you are given it and you have the right to say no. Don’t be afraid to speak up. It is their job to do what is best for you, answer your questions and respect your wishes.
California does not require you have the vaccine. It does matter if you are sexually active and this includes oral sex, as it does no good if you have already been exposed to HPV, which most of us have. However, once you have had the series of 3 shots, you can then become sexually active as you are now immune to HPV. However, it is still important that you practice safe sex as the vaccine does not prevent other STDs or pregnancy. The vaccine does require periodic booster shots.

You are right to be thinking this way. Next time you visit a doctor (or dentist) be sure you ask questions. Your doctor can and will explain things to you if you ask. If by chance you have a doctor who does not like to take the time to make sure your questions are answered, find a different doctor. You are an important part of your own medical care. You need to understand what the doctor wants to do and why. You should tell the doctor of any concerns you have too. The more you speak up, the better your medical care will be. Perhaps your doctor was trying to save time by not trying to answer questions s/he didn't know you had. Just don't be shy about speaking up in the future.

It is a series of three shots and they are spaced apart over six months if I remember correctly. In some states I understand they are trying to make it mandatory. I think that is about time. If they can vaccinate something that causes cancer then one day they may eradicate that cancer.
However, any medical procedure done on you needs to be explained before they do it. If you have a complaint contact the administration office of the hospital and explain what happened. Regardless of your age, or maybe especially because of it, they need to explain to you what they are doing, and don't be afraid to tell them to stop until they have done so.

Your doctor should have explained to you what you were getting and you have the right to decline any shot you want. They won't tell you that though. I have never been vaccinated in my life and have been a whole lot healthier than people I know who have been vaccinated.
The cervical cancer shot is scarey and unnecessary. There have been several studies done on this and just because it's FDA apporved doesn't mean it's good for you. Here's an article on why it's not safe. http://v.mercola.com/blogs/public_blog/Cancer-Vaccine-Not-Safe-15275.aspx
Due to the fact that you're under 18, your parents are responsible for signing all legal documents in treatment. I would advise you talk to your doctor about this situation and tell him/her that you want to know everything that is going to be done before they do it. You have the right to deline any treatment you want and I would discuss that with your parents too. Any further questions on vaccines or any of this, feel free to email me.

he definately should have explained it.
i assume the shot you got was Guardasil. it prevents you from getting HPV, whch is an STD that can cause cervical cancer. it's really scary b/c you can the virus it even if you use condoms. you get a series of 3 shots, a few months apart, so you will need to go back later to get your other 2.
it doesn't matter if you are sexually active or not, since the goal is to give girls the shot before they become sexually active. it's a new shot, so young adults are getting it now too, but the ideal age for it is 11 or 12 years old.

Good for you for staying a virgin till you get married. I applaude you!!!
I hate when some dr. are such butt-heads and dont respect people enough to talk to them about whats going on with THEIR OWN BODIES. Doesn't mater what age you are.
Anyway you will need to get 3 shots. You'll need
to call the office. I would set appt. now just cuz I zone things out otherwise.
Bring you're shot record to get it documented. This is important.
The blood and urine test are just routine and can pick up if you have an infection or are amemic. Assume it is OK if you don't hear from them.
Also it's important that you get the shots before you have the chance to be infected. You need to get all 3 shots months before you are active.

He probably should have explained this to you. Also there are some states that require that you get one. I am not sure what they are you may want to see if yours is one of them. If not well then he should have asked if you wanted it.
