How Do You Use a Patent?

I'm really new at this. I'm in the process of obtaining a patent for an invention. I'd rather not say what the invention is. Anywho, once I get it, how do I work this thing? If I want to sell the idea, who in retail circuits do I contact? If I wanted to sell to K-Mart of Target or whomever, what is the title of the person I should seek?
