The Intels are currently better, but I think people are overstating this a lot. On a scale of 1 to 10 it is basically a 10 versus a 9. In addition if you are on a budget, the AMDs will probably be a better choice, since despite what the first guy said, AMD is currently winning on price/performance.

intel, duo's crush all AMD's in all benchmarks, on all games from the 66xx up vs the best amd has to offer the 6xxx+. There is no contest...in all comes down to what you want to spend...that being said the 6xxx+ is like 170 which is about the same as a 6550, which will smoke that amd or for 100 more you can have the 6850 which will make the best amd has to offer look like an Pentium 1.

I have to say Intel is best at THIS TIME. They have quad core processors now, while AMD doesn't. The prices are cheap, especially for dual core processors like the Core 2 Duo line. The price/performance ratio is best for Intel. AMD, I would say, is targetting more of the old generation of people, just for emails, and pictures of their grandkids, while Intel is targetting more gamers, and young people.

I'm biased towards pro-AMD.
but last I heard, unfortunately at the moment the C2D's are signifigantly more powerful and even cheaper in some situations.
