I think they will be ok. Jermaine Dye would have been an extra and I doubt he would be happy with that. I maybe would have let Hanson go but not Delcarmen. At least they got Gagne to bolster and already great bullpen!

We made the wise choice in not getting Dye.He is a everyday player, and there would have been no place to play him on a consistent basis. We need Drew back in the outfield, and put Pena back on the bench. There are alot of studs playing in the minors right now, and I think Theo made the wise decision on not giving up any of the players that are the future of the Red Sox.Delcarman and Hanson both are phenomenal pitchers, we'll see where they take us down the road.

No, they tried and had the best offer but the White Sox were looking for too much...
They wanted one of the prospects that the Red Sox did NOT want to trade...Bukholz or Ellsbury
They wanted Dye but they didn't want to give up their future to get a bat that might not even come back next year.

Dye has maybe 1 or 2 good years left in him. Most likely he is going to be an average player with limited upside. Hanson still has potential but he needs to be a pitcher, not a thrower. Delcarmen has shown flashes of brilliance.
Not a mistake at all, in fact quite wise.

Delcarmen has come around nicely, and the other prospect in the proposed deal was too highly rated to give up. It would be a little troublesome to see Ortiz struggle with an injury because there is no spare bat (which would have been Dye), but Dye probably wouldn't have been happy in a part-time role.

No, he wouldn't even play every day. It's like they say, some times the best trades are the ones you never made!
