I'm OK, you're right. I looked it up and it says that ti even classifies Northern Africans as White and they tried to get their own racial group but the U.S census refused because they didn't know where to group Jews

Depends what you mean by Semite. If you're referring to being Jewish, than it's white. Jews are European in heritage (ashkanazi). the only Semitic Jews are the ones who never left the Holy land like the Palestinians who are also Semitic. There are Jews from the middle east and all over the world, it's their religion that makes them Jewish not their nationality.
Semites, along with any race that's not Hispanic, Asian, African American, Native American or Pacific Islander are considered Caucasian, Even if your skin is brown. So if you're Italian or greek you're just as white as a Polish or Swedish person in their book.
***for the guy above me, Indians (from India) are considered Asian. I'll have to look it up, but I think Afganistan is in Asia too isn't it? It's not in the middle east and neither is India or Pakistan like people believe.

Race is an artificial social construct anyway. Aesthetic features associated with "race" are merely from people with common genetic dispositions concentrated along particular points on the continuum of genetic variation. The impetus or need to categorize people on that basis goes far beyond anything instructive that nature has to offer.
So, what the heck does it matter what a Semite puts down on a card or form? (And what the heck is a "racial card" anyway? Even South Africa eliminated those after apartheid.)

Semite
(sÄm´īt, sÄ´mÄ«t) , originally one of a people believed to be descended from Shem, son of Noah. Later the term came to include the following peoples: Arabs; the Akkadians of ancient Babylonia; the Assyrians; the Canaanites (including Amorites, Moabites, Edomites, Ammonites, and Phoenicians); the various Aramaean tribes (including Hebrews); and a considerable portion of the population of Ethiopia. These peoples are grouped under the term Semite, chiefly because their languages were found to be related, deriving presumably from a common tongue, Semitic. The Semites were largely nomadic pastoralists, although some settled in villages. At least as early as 2500 , the Semites had begun to leave the Arabian peninsula in successive waves of migration that took them to Mesopotamia, the Mediterranean coast, and the Nile delta. They were organized into patrilineal tribes, occupying defined territories and ruled by hereditary leaders, or sheiks. In Mesopotamia, Semitic people from the earliest times were in contact with Sumerian civilization and with the rise of Sargon of Agade (Akkad) and Hammurabi of Babylon were able to dominate it completely (see Sumer). In Phoenicia the Semitic population developed a widespread maritime trade and became the first great seafaring people. That group of Hebrews that had been diverted through Sinai into the Nile delta settled at last with other Semitic inhabitants in Palestine. These southern or Judean Hebrews became the leaders of a new nation and religion (see Jews and Judaism).
Semite is not a race.

Did you know that both Jews and Muslims are Semites? Actually, Pope Pius XII said that "we are spiritual Semites". I assume he meant Christians, Jews, and Muslims, since we are all "People of the Book". All "Semite" really means is "descendant of Shem", one of Noah's three sons. "Shem", by the way, means "name" in Hebrew. (Ha-Shem is The Name, that is, God.) I know this answer doesn't address the race issue ... but there are Semitic languages, not Semitic races.

Dhuu - honey, people in Afghanistan are white, so are the people in India (caucasians) and most of us know damn well that they are white or at least a somewhat darker shade. So what exactly is your problem with Semites (Jews and Arabs)
