Ferrets are prone to cancers. Early altering and genetics being the most likely causes. There is nothing that we, as ferret owners, can do to prevent this. The best we can do is provide optimal care and be sure to bring them in for regular checkups. While cancers can not be prevented some can be treated, not only extending life but providing a better quality of life as well.

Ferrets seem to be prone to some cancers, Adrenal being the most common. They should always be neutered or spayed to help prevent reproductive cancers. There doesn't seem to be any more of a chance of cancer in ferrets than in other small animals. Please don't worry about things not so likely to happen. Just enjoy their fuzzy little selves.

Cancer is a BIG problem for ferrets. Especially those coming from Marshall Farms, which is where most come from.
All you can do is keep a close watch for any unusual symptoms and see a vet accordingly.

There really is no way to prevent other then 'preventative care'. All this means is to make sure your ferret sees a veterinarian on a yearly basis. You also want to make sure they get prompt vet visits if they exhibit any signs of cancer...bumps, weight loss, hair loss, etc.

Sorry but you really can't prevent cancer. Cancer is something in the body that forms its self!
