This was a leak to generate more hype so more people would spend $$ on the books.

She did admit to changing it close to the end. This is a common marketing technique.

Here is what J.K. Rowling said in an interview before book 7 came out:

ES: Is the last word of Book 7 still scar?

JKR: At the moment. I wonder if it will remain that way.

As it turned out, the book ended up ending with, "The *scar* had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well," so it was still towards the end, but she must have ended up needing to do a little rearranging.

In the epilogue, which is set19 years after the defeat of Voldemort, Rowling paints a picture of Harry standing on platform 9 3/4, his nearest and dearest surrounding him. In her original draft, the last line was “Only those who he loved could see the lightning scar,’”
Ultimately, Rowling felt that line was too ambiguous, begging the question about whether the scar was still there or not. She said wanted a more concrete statement that Harry had won; Voldemort had been defeated. The scar was still there, but now it was only a scar.

Rowling wanted to say it’s over, It’s done.

Rowling changed the last line to: “All was well.”

She changed her mind. She thought it was more fitting for the final sentance to be "All was well."
