There is NO maximum amount you can transfer. US law requires banks to report amounts form $10,000 up for purposes of detecting money laundering. A single transfer will draw absolutely ZERO attention. A bank to bank wire is probably the fastest and should be competitively priced.

1. Open a USD account in a Canadian bank and transfer your money there (if you haven't done that already).

2. Simply deposit a check in a large US bank (Bank of America or similar). Its free and your funds will be available within 1-2 weeks. You'll have to complete a form where you'll declare the source of funds for US government, like "life savings", "proceeds of home sale" etc.
