Because nobody can "sing" anymore, & the music labels don't want to invest in taking a "chance" on promoting anyone new. :(

I feel as if while there is still a lot of music that I like from today, while it may not be number 1 on the radio (Chris Cornell solo, Incubus, Finger Eleven, Shinedown), it's out there on the market, sometimes 3 1/2 to 4 minute songs don't always showcase an artist as well as they could if they where longer.
In other words having an artist mold a song into 3 or 4 minutes forces them to put their creativity in a box instead if giving it some breathing room with 6 or 7 minutes and give the band a chance to jam on a song instead of verse, chorus, versue, chorus, 24-30 second guitar solo, possibly another quick verse chorus, end.
I feel that's what you hear from some record labels where it's all about marketing on the business where listeners on the radio dial tend to have a short attention span and are quick to flip from one station to another. It seems like the music industry wants quick and to the point with some artists.
I personally don't think it's just a coincidence that I tend to favor songs like:
"Lady So Devine" by Shinedown - About 7 minutes long with an extended guitar solo
"Atmosphere" by Shinedown - probably the longest song off of Us and Them other than Lady So Devine.
"Sick Sad Little World" by Incubus - Another song about 7 minutes long with an extended guitar solo
"Paper Shoes" by Incubus
It's not the fact that these songs are a little longer than most other newer songs today, but I think it's the fact that the bands can showcase themselves a little more if you give their music a chance to breathe a little more instead of limiting it to 3 1/2 to 4 minutes. Those songs are out there, but go on the backburners of rock music today (until the band puts them in their live sets) and certainly don't get released as singles.
I wish rock music could get back to longer singles. However let us not forget the "business" part of "music business"

Forget about expecting variety from mainstream radio. It ain't gonna happen. You need to listen to college or internet radio if you don't wanna hear the same tired 10 songs again & again.
Classic rock stations generally should Not play indie, unless maybe they do what a station does here & showcases new bands once a week on a special show or something. But again, indie rock is best heard online or on college radio. Just do some Googling.

-they are all chorus because that is the most loved format by the public- because well vocals are just fun to sing with and it point blankly tells the emotion of the song rather than having the individual explore thier own emotions to depict what the song is trying to say, hence vocal-strong songs are more popular AND make more money
-annoying top 20 stations only play a few choosen artists because those are the artists with the most money who's agents and stuff pay the radio station big money to play it. im sure you have a Kiss FM around where you live because Kiss is a nationally own business- and thats what they are more of a business than a radio station, but they cover that up with their little count downs saying its what the public wants to hear when its what producers want you to hear
-i think classic rock stations are too much like the old guy sitting on the front porch yelling at the kids to get off his lawn; i think 'classic rock stations' should broaden their horizons but thats just me because once upon a time classic rock was the kind of music that was "new and radical"

Look at MTv and the sh*t that they promote. They actually started out playing MUSIC VIDEOS can you believe that? What about the show "Making the Band"? What a load of crap that is. These people don't play any instruments. They dance to tracks and sing. That is not a band. A band has instruments. They arrange their own music. They pay their dues.
AC?DC said it best - "Its a long way to the top if you wanna Rock and Roll".

Honestly, I hate the radio... Although I listen to it. The stations play the same song over and over again.
*I am sick of the Plain White T's "Hey There, Delilah"*
