Organ donation is a fantastic concept, and I agree that it should be changed to an opt-out program instead of opt-in. The above poster is very incorrect saying that you will receive a lower standard of care if you are a donor. The organ procurement team has no affiliation with the hospital, and they are not the doctors that will be trying to save you.

The gift of life is truly amazing, and it can make your demise an event of praise if you are able to give your organs to allow someone else to live.

I donated my kidney on 9/26/06, and while living donation is not the same as this subject, I can imagine that the feeling that I felt will be felt by your loved ones, and the family of the recipient.

Registered organ donor and Christian. I will be dead what do I need my organs for? If someone else needs them let them have at it. Lovejesus: It is a basic Christian teaching that the body is just a vessel and will die. You don't take your body with you otherwise people would save a fortune on burial arangements and just have everyone buried in one spot. So it doesn't matter what you do with your organs when you die because it is just the vessel. I told my husband to bury me in a pine box in the backyard because I really didn't give a rip.

Sure. If someone or someone deceased wished t donate their organs to save another's life or take away pain from another (ie. people on dialysis) then we should! We're morally obligated to provide organ donations when people want to donate and receive!

Absolutely! I've been a registered organ donor since I got my first driver's license at 14.
There are too many people who don't make it because of a lack of organs. If I die, I want as many people to get the help they so desperately need from my demise.
But I'm not going to pressure people into becoming donors themselves.

Yes. I would go so far as to say it should be changed to an opt-out system in which organs are routinely taken from the dead unless they have specifically requested otherwise.

yes- I have requested that after I die that as much of me as possible be donated. I would also love to be donated to the University of Tennessee's forensics body farm that studies decomposing bodies in various scenarios.
