This is right up my alley! Here are my recommendations: I'm listing the groups by the era where they had their first hits. Some of these were "one hit wonders" but their songs were still great.

Early Pre Rock & Roll Doo Wop (1948 - 1955) Orioles, FIve Keys, Crows, Clovers, Harp-Tones, Clyde McPhatter & The Drifters, Flamingos, Cardinals, Spaniels, Cadillacs, Penguins, Moonglows, Platters, El Dorados, Valentines, Meadowlarks

Early Rock and Roll Doo Wop (1955 - 1957)- Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, Clovers, Cleftones, Five Satins, Channels, Dells, Heartbeats, Dell Vikings, Dubs, Charts, Mello-Kings, Hollywood Flames, Lee Andrew & The Hearts, Shells, Solitaires, Velvetones, Paragons

Late 50's Doo Wop (1957-59)- Pastels, Silhouettes, Chantels, Danleers, Dion & The Belmonts, Students, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Elegants. Crests, Skyliners, Impalas, Genies, Kodaks, Paradons, Fleetwods,

Early 60's Doo Wop (1960 - 64) Passions, Jesters, Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs, Capris, Marcels, Tokens, Shep & The Limelites, Regents, Edsels, Jive Five, Earls. Marvelows,Pentagons, Timetones, Chimes, Blue Jays, Duprees, Volumes.

I would highly reccomend trying to obtain the first two Doo Wop Box Sets (101 Vocal Group Gems From The Golden Age Of Rock 'N Roll) which were put out by Rhino Records a few years ago. They're a great introduction to a genre of music that is vastly underplayed and underappreciated.

doo wop? come on, take it some years into the destiny and get a number of that motown... marvin, the enticements... difficult to overcome! for the main suitable of the two worlds i could flow with sam cooke. he inspired most of the great musicians of this century. in an interview bob marley stated he could %. up southern radio stations in Jamaica at nighttime and sam cooke had a great consequence on his track. while you're no longer familiar with him, or regardless of while you're, look at: *convey it on residing house to me *a metamorphosis is gonna come -and- *stable cases woo... it's going to convey out the soul even in a white brother like me p.s. a metamorphosis is gonna come is recognized as crucial/significant song of protest
