Hi from the U.S. (that will explain my question)

How does our American accent sound to you guys? Does it sound stupid? Nice? what?

By the way I like the accent that you guys have.

Also to those other countries that I forgot to mention that speak English. Like scotland and Ireland.

I love your accents, used to hearing it on TV. Nicer in real life though. Once i hear this super tall blond airhead say "Oh mi god!" i was thinking, '****, that girl is tall, and stupid. nice accent though.'

Thanx 4 the compliment but i always thought the English accent to be quite dull- though there are many different accents here.

And no bloody hell isn't the same as saying ****. thats why that four letter word is censored.

The Canadians sound similar to American accent.

There are of course plenty of different American accents, from Boston to New Jersey to Tennessee and Texas, so there's not a single standard on which to judge. Ultimately though, it very much depends what the person is actually saying, rather than the accent in which they're saying it, how it comes across. As a sweeping generalisation, American accents have become the accents of the popular culture of the West, so many of our icons and heroes have an American accent, which probably makes it inherently pleasing to our ears. (Interestingly enough, a Hollywood generalisation tends to make villains upper class and English - I think this now known as Die Hard Syndrome!).

For me personally as a Welshman educated in Scotland and living in London, I love the American accent I hear most regularly - my wife's from New York State, and I'd be lost without her softly sage advice.

Americans are cool.

I love the American accent, just think that the Canadian accent is just a little better ;)

Just joking, it also depends on the person voice, as actors, radio presenter or other people who work with they voice seem to have better accents & voices.

I guess that there's more than one American accent same as there's a multitude of British accents. I find myself comforted by listening to Jim Reeves music as he sang in a deep Texan accent which soothes me. Some American accents are pleasant to listen to whilst others seem a bit whiny and annoying - although this could just be because they belong to whiny and annoying people.

Several of the answerer's have said that they hardly notice the American accent, because we have grown up with it ,in films and on T.V. I take the opposite view, I think that this makes us more aware of the differences in the numerous accents that America has. I have a Texan daughter-in-law, and I never tire,of listening to her talk.

I'm still awake! I dont really notice your accents coz it's on TV and film all the time, but I hate OUR accent in films! By the way, not all Brits are baddies! You can always tell who the bad guy is in a film because theyre English and very posh!
