The Bush Adminstration only has 18 months left, and by the time the deal is finalized, it would be even less. Why Arm the Saudis, just before leaving office?

He gets a fat commission - just like daddy Bush got when he sold arms to Iran illegally in the '80s.

This should be a criminal offence.

allies. Life goes on for us all. An election here is not going to change the world. We have something like 60 years of bad characters in the Middle east and the Europeans have dealt with them for centuries. It is not a case of the friends you want there it is a case of the friends you can get. Islam is not tolerant of western civilization and never will be.And the hard truth is that Islam is stronger than the governments (if they are not the government) of most of the countries. We would all like democracies but factually a monarchy that is friendly for the most part is better than none.

Good question. Maybe they think in a few years people will forget what happened and the next lying republican war-mungerer will claim the saudi's have WMD's. Or bush is planning a move to saudi and is trying to buy his protection by selling our arms and in essence selling our protection with them. Which leads me to my conclusion that bush is a nutcase.

World War? Bribery to keep operating in the Middle East unhindered? Israel is getting even more than the other middle eastern countries because it threw tantrum for not being originally included.

Edit:

If they are doing it to intimidate Iran, then they are asking for a World War due to the fact that Iran will not back down whatsoever. Iran has Russia and China backing. Also, if Russia told the U.S. to do the same thing the U.S. is telling Iran, then do you think the U.S. would back down and comply at Russia's command?

Do you people even have a clue as to what imperialism means?

Ever hear of a country called Iran? Selling weapons to Saudi Arabia does not make Iran happy. That is why Iran is making such a big deal over the sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia.

1) Iran and Saudi Arabia don't get along.
2) Iran doesn't want Saudi Arabia to have weapons.
3) America is not happy with Iran refining uranium to make nuclear bombs.
4) If the weapons are not bought from the U.S. then they would be bought from France, etc..

Because they cannot arm Saudi Arabia after they leave office... so Bush must do it now, or not do it at all.

And Bush has strong family ties to the Saudi leadership.

Because of the impending Iranian threat. We need to bolster security around Iran if only to send the message that the world, and Iran's immediate neighbors, are nervous and ready to attack if provoked. Honestly, this administration just wants to see Iran publicly backdown. I'm not sure if they will. And if they don't, we are in real trouble. I'm talking mushroom cloud trouble.

Because it appears the Dems would abandon Iraq to be overrun by the Iran backed Shiites
An armed Saudi Arabia will create better balance so we're not all screwed.
