Well, the best source of poems that might catch your interest, especially those that rhyme, would be a book called "best loved poems of the american people". If it's not at your local bookstore, you can order it online. It has some very classic poems inside, plus a section called "poems that tell a story"...very, very good book.

Meanwhile, there are all sorts of poems that rhyme. Some are both funny and philosophical...for example:

Chili Dogs

Chili dogs with onions
Cheese and ketchup on the bun
The two I ate just made me sick
Next time I’ll just eat one

Kevin Sorbello
----------------------------

The reason this is also philisophical is because it shows our human nature at it's most problamatical: when we find out something isn't good for us...instead of not doing it again, we simply choose to do it to a lesser degree.

There are poems of love, of course, but sometimes there is beauty in brevity, as in these poem in haiku form I wrote:

I see myself more
Clearly when I’m reflected
In your loving eyes.

Fish that swim, birds that
Fly, snakes that crawl, both you and
I, in time, will die.

and

I cannot hate a
Face not met, and yet I can
Love an entire world.

So, there's "life", and then there's "Life"...big and small, it's all good.

Pick up the book and you'll find a treasure trove of poems you'll enjoy, I promise.

Fearless

Resolute and valiant
A fighter am I
My dreams are infinite
Beyond the surface of the sky

I am scarred and wounded
Crusade after crusade
But every waking moment
The pain seems to fade

I am constantly thinking
“You’re a fighter! Fight this!”
But if I fail to achieve
I will receive the death’s kiss

Perceive life as it is
A game that we play
No human in this world
Is our master to obey

This life is a challenge
But I’m not afraid
I’ll gallantly move on
With each choice I’ve made.

Resolute and valiant
A warrior am I
Awaiting my turn
To say goodbye.

Ode to a Friend

All the times I cried
You’d wipe away my tears
All the times I screamed
You’d fight away my fears

Every moment that passed
Every day that went by
I could always count on you
To be by my side

All the times I was hurt
You’d help me heal
You could always understand
The pain I feel

Whenever I felt weak
You’d tell me I’m strong
When I thought it was hopeless
You’d always prove me wrong

Whenever I was upset
You’d make me laugh
You became apart of me
Like my other half

Although you left this world
Even though we grew apart
You’ll always stay with me
Forever, in my heart.

The Power of One

With the strength of a million
I shall fight
Every heart, every soul
I’ll ignite.

With the vigor of a thousand
I shall win
I’ll escape the lies
I’ve buried within.

With the force of a hundred
I shall rule
My heart so kind
Yet, my mind so cruel.

With the might of ten
I shall prevail
I’ll overcome my fears
I’ll never fail.

With the power of one
I shall survive
In this corrupted world
I’ll remain alive.

My Sacrifice

For a hundred years
I would fight
To help my people
To make everything right

For a thousand years
I would kill
To bring back their confidence
To bring back their will

For a million years
I would endure pain
To bring the people I love
Happiness again

Try Emily Dickinson's poems. When I was young and starting to get interested in poetry, I found hers easy to read and understand.

These are some of my early favorites:

Part One: Life

XI

MUCH madness is divinest sense
To a discerning eye;
Much sense the starkest madness.
’T is the majority
In this, as all, prevails.
Assent, and you are sane;
Demur,—you ’re straightway dangerous,
And handled with a chain

XIII

THE SOUL selects her own society,
Then shuts the door;
On her divine majority
Obtrude no more.

Unmoved, she notes the chariot’s pausing
At her low gate;
Unmoved, an emperor is kneeling
Upon her mat.

I’ve known her from an ample nation
Choose one;
Then close the valves of her attention
Like stone.

XXVII

I ’m nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there ’s a pair of us—don’t tell!
They ’d banish us, you know.

How dreary to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!

A Friend

A good friend is hard to find
I'm glad you are a friend of mine.
A friend is there everyday
To help in anyway.
A friend makes you laugh
A friend doesn't break your heart in half.
A friend doesn't let you cry
When people tell you a lie.
A friend like you is good to be around
Especially when I am down.

Hope ya like that one.
