Yes, though some people have said no. But it just makes sense that it would even if it has to go from really hot to cool again. I do it all the time and I seem to have low bills. Actually, I just read the answer about turning it up to about 80, which really makes the best sense, rather than turning if off.

It may save money on electric bills, but it will cost you more in the long run because of the wear-and-tear on your A/C when it has to work super hard once you get home.
Plus - do you really want to come home to a sweltering hot house? Just turn it down 5 - 10 degrees, then turn it up when you get home.
Plus -- a hot house will make your fridge have to work harder, too, and can ruin your computer!

Get yourself a programable thermostat. Program it to raise the temperature no more than 10 degrees higher than you want it and have it come back on 30 minutes before you come home. If you raise it over 10 degrees the a/c has to work harder to cool down the air and lower the humidity, and this means no energy savings.

No unlike what most poster hear have said, if it has a thermostat keeping it at a constant is easier and cheaper than coming home to a hot house and trying to get it down 20 degrees. When it is cool in the morning it does not take much to keep it there, after it heats up the compressor must run continuously in order to get the temperature down, and that is where the draw on the electric is.

You are better off turning the temperature up. The AC will work overtime trying to get the house temperature to cool.
Try taking it up about 4 degrees.

Yes but I wouldn't recommend shutting it off totally try turning it up to 80 so that way there is still some air circulation

Set the thermostat to come on at 78 degrees. That way the house is cool when you get home.

lets put it this way it pays to unplug it when your not using it. So i would say it's beneficial to not run it while your at work.
