As a fellow Niner fan, I want to say ALex Smith... but I really couldn't do that. Smith has a lot of upside this year, but Rivers is much more of a sure thing. I'd take Rivers until Smith proves that he can consistently put up bigger numbers. Some weeks will favor Smith matchup-wise as well, so start him against easy defenses, especially when Rivers gets a tough d for the week.

Start with Rivers the first game then when Smith has a great game, put him in the rest of the season. Until then start Rivers, Smith will need to get to know his receivers first. I hope as much as you do that Smith has a great season too, I too am a 9er fan.

I may have San Diego bias, but start Rivers.
Defenses will be keying on LT this year, opening up the Chargers' passing game. Gates will be Gates, and they will also be lining him up as a wide receiver at times. LT will get his catches out of the backfield. And, look for Vincent Jackson to have a break-out year.
