A real gentleman would only wear a white shirt while dressed formal. Many guys go overboard, which tends to take attention away from his lovely lady. Don't forget to polish your shoes!

It may seem boring, but a white shirt, black tie, and black tux is the way to go. Have your boutonniere match her dress if you need some color.

You'll be stylin' dude!

No! Any color works! Black matches every color, and looks polished in almost every situation. As a risk, try a light pink shirt, black pants, and a bow tie.

1] is black the color of the suit/pants? Otherwise, match the suit color, or shirt color, in solids or prints.
2] black goes with every color well except brown or tan.
