I think we should change our state bird to the flamingo (instead of the mocking bird) but only if the flamingo is native to Florida. I was just wondering...

No, they're not.

The Florida Commemorative Coin Committee sifted through approximately 1,600 proposed designs for the Florida quarter Wednesday, and eliminated all but 26.

Two of the designs pictured flamingos, but committee Chairman Gary Lewis of Cape Coral said these would probably be changed to another bird because flamingos aren't native to Florida.

Flamingos are not native to North America. The flamingo is the national bird of the Bahamas.
