I am running a p4 3.0 Northwood HT processor with three gigs of ram, 2x1gb sticks and 2x512mb sticks, all dual channel and pc3200. Its all matching brand name (corsair) but I haven't really seen a speed increase since I put in the extra gb (only reason I bought it was because a friend was selling it for only $30). My question is, is that much difference to have the extra gig, my boot time is still the same and so is my load time on all my games give or take a few seconds. I have another friend thats willing to pay $60 for the gig and I think ill be better off just selling it, what do you guys think.

Unless you're playing bleeding edge shooter games it's really not necessary.

you will only notice a difference in speed if you use the 2 GB and go into the 3 GB, which is entirely possible if your running enough programs that take up a lot of ram. if it was me i would keep it always for the future, but if you need the money then it still would be ok to sell it

I am assuming that you are running windows, although i would like to imagine this is not so. anyway, your operating system will only utilize up to about 2 gigs of ram, although if you were running vista, my recommendation would be to get rid of the 512 sticks and get 2 more gigs. or if you arent running windows that 512 should be all you need for most linux, so either way you are in good shape. keep 3 gigs or more, you may need it later

RAM will not really help your boot time. There are a lot of factors that go into the speed of your computer. One is the speed of your hardrive. If you did not notice that much of an increase in performance, then I would sell that stick of RAM!!!
