I always put premium gas in my Honda CBR600, even though it does not require premium gas.
Does it do any good to the bike?
or it is waste of money?

Manual says requires 89 or HIGHER

What model? F1, F2, F3, F4, F4i, etc.

Anyhow, the compression is so high on most modern sport bikes (in excess of 11:1, usually closer to 12:1) that high octane fuel is vital to prevent premature ignition. So this has less to do with 'burning clean' as it has to do with the compression of your motor. Low compression motors do not require higher octane gas as there is insufficient compression in the cylinders to cause spontaneous combustion. So running low octane fuel in a high-compression motor is a sure-fire way of destroying your motor.

However, if the owner's manual says that 89 octane is all you need, that's all you need. Going with a higher octane will not improve your gas mileage, but will increase your horsepower as it ignites over a narrower compression/temperature range, and therefore more completely--the 'cleaner' running mentioned in other posts.

I would run premium as you already do for a few different reasons. First if you run standard 87 octane it will ping unless it is a newer fuel injected model. If it is fuel injected the bikes ecu(think computer) will retard the timing, costing you some performance and lets face it you didn't get the bike to putt-putt around in. If it is an older one the lower octane will cause the bike to fire early than it should causing both damage to the motor and less of power. The damage will not immediately kill the motor but will cause it to need to be rebuilt sooner than if you ran the 89 or higher octane. I run premium gas because when you think of what we are asking these bike engines to do, 15,000 rpm, why not give them the best available gas, synthetic oil, and whatnot.

If you put anything lower that 89, the engine might start knocking. Best to stick what the manual says - Honda most likely has data to back up the min. octane requirement

Use premium...

It will be a bit better for your bike, b/c even though you could put in regular, it will burn a bit cleaner.

And frankly, who cares. Its like a $1 difference. 5 gallons with even a 20 cent diff b/t reg and premium will only cost you a buck. I'm sure you could find a million other ways to waste a buck over the time you ride 200 something miles, dont worry about it so much.

Ultimetly, you will get a better burn from your fuel. Not that you will really notice it. It also burns cleaner because the fuel is more refined!
Most modern sportsbike require an octane rating of 95 RON or higher otherwise you run the risk of internal damage to your engine.
I would check your manual or go to the honda website and ask them what the specified rated fuel is and make sure you tell them what year model it is.

Usually, the higher the compression, the higher the octane required. But I'd go with what your owners manual says.

waste of money. If the bike runs well on a lower priced, lower octane fuel, run that. If it pings or knocks, go up to the next highest octane.

I use regular or ethanol blend in my 599 (cbr's cheaper cousin) the owners manual says use regular and I think Mr Honda wouldn't lie to me would he?
