i remember it as a child around the late 80's early 90's. It showed a boy who was watching tv downstairs then has to goto bed. When he's in his room and the lights are out, the closet handle starts to move so he turns on the light and the handle stops moving. He turns out the light and same thing happens again. Finally he grabs a nerf gun or bb gun and doesn't turn on the lights again and a monster comes out and he shoots the monster. The monster proceeds to cry and the boy comforts him. It may have been a children's book too, im not sure though.

I don't think it's little monsters.. (he doesn't use a nerg gun or bb gun.. he makes it so that the bed collapses and turns on the light).. but otherwise I am not reallly sure.. I can't think of any "monster" movies from the time period.. other than maybe Monster in my closet.. but I that was a toy.. I don't recall a show..

i think it was little monsters the actor is fred savage go to imbd.com type in little monsters and see if the actor was the kid in your movie
