Man, I'm not a big fan of Rudy Guiliani (he's pro-choice, for one), but I'm changing more and more. For one, I just read his book on how he reduced crime in NYC, and I truly believe that it would work nationwide as well. (His idea is to make people personally responsible for crime rates, and it worked!)
However, his health care plan is what is reeling me in. I've been saying this for MONTHS!!!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070731/ap_on_el_pr/giuliani_health_care
His idea is for the government to give tax credits to every family so that they can buy their own health insurance. In other words:
1. Every person in America has health care
2. We don't have to sacrifice the high quality we are used to And we DO have the best in the world. As an example, Canada has a 17.7 week wait time for procedures
http://www.independent.org/newsroom/article.asp?id=1292
3. It will cost the same as Obama's plan, except we getter better quality care!
What do you guys think?

This is different from socialistic medicine, because there the Government pays for the care, and they don't pay much, so it usually means poor care and long wait times.

Most people just want to get health care to everyone.. they don't care if it's paid for before or after taxes. They just want a plan that will work. It's not like we still don't have to pay for it as a tax credit.. it's just money from a different stage is all.

Nope I like the idea where we nationalize the greedy HMO's regulate the pharmaceuticals, cap the CEO pay rate at 100times that of the average worker.
This nonsense we'll sacrifice quality is nonsense. I don't know about the wait time but I know many many Canadians that are satisfied with their health care system. It seems the biggest critics of Canada's health care system are American Cons who know little or nothing and are merely attempting to main the status quo.
Hey what about Guiliani's wife (the Princess bride -- man she's a piece of work... almost as bad as Thompson's)

Will the insurance companies suddenly start giving the group rates they give to companies to individuals? I seriously doubt it. Since individual health insurance is a lot more expensive than buying into a group plan through your employer, this will leave a lot of people underinsured or having to get second-rate (At best) coverage.
At any rate, what's the difference in the government giving tax credits and the government just paying for it?

Republicans prove their retardation every time they say anything about this issue.
All Rudy's plan is designed to do is to make more money for Insurance companies.
And it is an absolute lie that Canada has such a long waiting time. That statistic is arrived at by taking less than 5% of waiting periods over the last view years and averaging them against 95% of waiting periods, which are in the 1-2 week period, which is substantially lower than the 4-7 week period for Medicare patients in this country and substantially lower than the 6-9 week waiting period for 42% of all surgical procedures performed on privately insured Americans.

Sure I do. His plan is to give tax DEDUCTIONS to help with health care, not tax breaks. Since poor people already get all their tax money back at the end of the year, how can a tax deduction possibly help them obtain health care?
Dumb idea, but those are usually the ones that excite conservatives the most.

First of all, I have to say that anything Giuliani is in favor of, cannot be good for the people. So, even though I am not familiar with the plan, I have to agree with Lamplighter's assessment of it! Giuliani is a globalist...purely and simply!
Another issue I have with it, is the tax credit thing. I have a big issue with income tax in the first place, and I am not the only person who believes that income tax is a scam, that is wrong on every level. I am one of those who wants to see the income tax abolished immediately! *sm*

I think that such a plan would cause great joy in the boardrooms of insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and in the medical industry... because their profits would rise from their already lofty heights.
But would this allow the working poor to buy sufficient insurance coverage?
No. Not even close.
This plan isn't for the good of Americans. It's for the good of American corporations. It may actually turn out to be worse than the present system, for society overall.

Answer: AH!...NO!
Tax credits pay for health care...And thats different from taxes HOW?
"1. Every person in America has health care"
So even those that don't work and pay taxes, retired, illegal invaders whatever receive "free" health care?
How does one that pays little or no taxes contribute that "tax credit"
Your factoid about Canada is mild compared to the wait and being denyed service that exists in England.

Universal health care DOES NOT have to mean government controlled healthcare! I respect your observations here, but, if a democrat proposed such a system, "conservatives" would be screaming socialism. A healthy people are more productive and worthy of investment!

I was a little iffy on Guiliani but his health care plan really is the right first step. it has been in the works for a while and is also being pushed by a group of senators. here is a better explanation of the program
