Me - cuz its me.

But a close second would be Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Try Hocus Pocus. It is a great eclectic satirical, political funny, endearing read. Like most of his works.

JK Rowling. It is really easy to read her stuff and it is so imaginative. Her books are exciting enough not to get bored reading them repeatedly. Also, she planned the HP series so intricately. You can go back and find little bread crumbs that you missed along the way. I have never read a set of books that was so well planned out that people would have great debates on what might happen in future books. I love that about her writing. I only hope that I can be as good of an author one day.

I'd have to say, well, gosh! How can you know your fav. author? I love different authors, for different reasons. I love JK Rowling, for her amazing imagination, detirmination, and down to earth ways.
I love Celia Rees because the 3 books of hers that ive read (Witch child, Sorcerer, Pirates!) are just like the ones that i would have a great time writing.
I love Libba Bray because her imagination is just amazing, and that her book series (3rd book comes out day after xmas 2007) goes where no other book will go. And because Libba Bray has a hilarious humor (just read her livejournal)
and i love Jennifer Donnelly, because her books are so full of life that i forget that im not the main character.

It is sooo hard to choose since I am an English Teacher. I like reading Jodi Picoult for pleasure, but I love Edgar Allan Poe overall. Laurie Halse Andeson is a great YA author. I love Lemony Snickets and Edward Gorey... I could go on.

Anthony Trollope.

This British writer was a friend of Hardy and Thackeray and he criticized Charles Dickens.

Anthony Trollope has an easy to read yet intelligent writing style. He wrote from 1850s to the 1880s yet he is extremely prescient. You would think he was writing about 21st century human interactions. He also has a great sense of humor and can make you laugh.

Robert Ludlom, Patricia Cornwell.
They both write books that you can really get lost in. Nowadays a lot of writers write screenplays instead of novels. Meaning the write a book as if it was going to be made into a movie. This cheapens the the content and really harnesses good writing.
Well, there's my rant.
Cheers,

J.K. Rowling. I think that she ties the books together, like the first book, where he suddenly is able to talk to a python and doesn't know why, and then he finds out in the second book that he is Parselmouth. There are always little facts tying the books together, and that is definately what makes them more interesting to me.

Very interesting question. I think it depends on my mood - I like Jane Austen because she creates a wonderful social picture of her contemporaries. I like Amy Tan because the relationships between her characters are very realistic. Then there's Lewis Carroll who I love for his language. Friedrich Dürrenmatt because of his incredible realistic (and painful) view on society. Shakespeare, again because of the language. David Malouf, his imagery is incredible. But there are more ;)

Diana Gabaldon

She writes about countries and time periods that I am interested in. Time travel is used in a plausible way and the imagery she projects thru words draws me in and makes me feel like I am actually there.
