My new boa (about 1.5 years) looks as if his guts are hanging out? Any idea what it could be?

If this is a male, he could have prolapsed (expelled) one or both of the hemipenes. (snake sexual organs) Either sex could have ruptured the intestine or cloaca (anus) which would be a hernia. Either way, this is very serious. Get your Boa to a reptile vet right away. About the only thing you can do during the transport is to wrap a damp white paper towel around the area to keep the tissues from drying out. I would not wait- this could be very serious!

If you mean that there is moist looking red tissue protruding from the vent then your snake has a prolapse. It could be part of the digestive tract or if it is a male, a hemipenis. It is a situation that really does require a vet. In the meantime keep the tissue clean, moist and undamaged. House him on newspaper and apply vaseline or an antibiotic ointment to the exposed tissue. This will not solve the problem it just keeps the tissue alive until the vet can get it back where it belongs.
Intestinal parasites are a common cause of intestinal prolapses in snakes.
