There are two types of modulation:

1. Frequency modulation (FM) - the data is overlaid on a carrier signal, where the amplitude of the data signal corresponds to the frequency of the carrier signal (it continuously changes).

2. Amplitude modulation (AM) - the data is sent as a single signal those amplitude is continuously changing.
