If the reset button keeps popping out that is a safety device meaning there is a short somewhere. Could be caused by deposits that have built up, and are in fact shorting out the lower heating element Should be an attachment on the bottom for a garden hose, attach one turn the valve and run it outside and drain part of the tank see what runs out (Turn the heating elements off when doing this) Then refill, turn back on and see if this does not solve the problem.

Here is a tip from a plumber.....once a year you should drain your water heater to prolong the life of it, you just hook up a hose to that water nozzle on the water heater and pull up that knob and let all the water out of it. We must do this becuz water minerals get trapped in there and the minerals can be like stones in there and we need to let them out so they don't ruin the inside of the tanks. Good advice huh??

I would call a plumber or electrician. If you follow the advice on here you could be spending money on things you don't need. And doing things that don't need to be done. Get a professional. You'll be money ahead.

It can be that you have a lot of sediment built up . or generally there are 2 heating elements one at the top and one at the bottom of the tank, and one of these my not be functioning.
