If it is near a mirror, it is likely seeing its reflection and flaring at "another Betta". If there is no mirror around, it is possible it is just flaring at your hand, to tell you not to touch his food. Bettas are like that. Check out this site http://fishlesscycling.com/forum/index.php.

Leave the male with the eggs, but you can only spawn them after careful conditioning. The male usually has longer, more colorful fins, and the female is more drab (USUALLY).

I've had my betta for 1.5 years, and he still flares sometimes when he sees me or when I walk close to his tank. Bettas are grouchy and territorial...unless he can somehow see his own reflection in a mirror or something like that, I'm sure he's fine.

To answer your second question, after they mate you should remove the female beta beacause she will eat the eggs, the male beta believe it or not will look after the eggs, forming air bubbles to keep them from fallin, if one falls he will go down and gently put the egg in his mouth and make a new bubble for it, they roughly have about 300 fry.

This isn't "mad" and it isnt' "stoopid." This is what betta do. It's part of their genetic makeup. It's called, "flaring." They do it when confronting enemies and they do it as part of their mating/breeding ritual. Because the flaring is in large part, a result of defense, fear and/or anger and those things cause stress to the fish, is isn't recommended that you do things that cause this situation, i.e., mirrors or putting your face too close to the tank.

Aren't we all, in a holistic way, truly mad??
Is this fish just an indication of our own true folly in a universal sense?? Think about it.
