The 1976 Cincinnati Reds

Won the NL West by 10 games over the Dodgers.
Had a 102-60 regular season record.

Beat the Phillies 3-0 in the NLCS
Beat the Yankees 4-0 in the World Series

7-0 Postseason. Since 1969 and the beginning of playoffs, no team can say they went undefeated in the playoffs except the Big Red Machine.

The 1949-53 Yankees won five consecutive World Series. That's pretty tough to beat.

Single season? 1976 Reds, the only team not to lose a postseason game since divisional play began. Sweeps over the Phillies (3-0) and Yankees (4-0) to bring home the happy ending.

Then there's the 1999 Yankees, 11-1 in steamrolling Texas, Boston (the only team to beat 'em, and it took Pedro at his best), and Atlanta.

The most inevitable championship teams I've witnessed would be the 1984 Tigers and 1998 Yankees (that October was so predestined that it was dull -- merely marking time until the Yankees won it, no suspense or drama at all).

Easily the 04 Red Sox

Once we got past Oakland, down 0-3 to the Yankees. Late inning comeback in game 4, then on to win games 5,6, and 7. Then sweep the Cards to win the world series. And the parade we had here after with a couple million people was insane. I will never forget that playoff run.

Definately the '98 Yankees, they were the most dominant team in the majors through the season, and more importantly through October... they swept the Padres in the WS. All u dumb @ssholes who say the '04 Sox should get ur heads out of the clouds. The Yankees were clearly the better team in '04. JOe Torre single-handedly blew that series for the Yankees... i'm in shock he wasn't fired. It wasn't so much that the Sox won it for themselves, Torre handed it to them on a silver platter... and that's the ******' truth!

i would give it to the red sox of 3 years ago. to come back from 3-0 to the yankees and then sweep the cardinals in the world series is amazing. winning 8 in a row in the ALCS and world series is amazing. no one has ever won that many games to end the season. and they did it against the curse and the yankees.

The 1976 Reds had to face two rounds and went 7-0. The 1999 Yankees had to face three rounds and went 11-1.

My three favorite recent ones in order

1. Anahiem Angels 2002 ( beat the Yankees in the 1st round and end up beating Barry and the Giants in a nail bitter 7 game series)
2. Boston Red Sox 2004 ( overcame 0-3 to NY but everyone forgets they almost got eliminated by Oakland in the 1st round)
3. Arizona Diamondbacks 2001 ( ended the Yankee dynasty and the emotion of NY in games 3,4,5 made it a memorable World Series, plus they were the underdog the whole way)
