OH, let this (FINALLY!) Empty-Nesting Single Retiree give yo a FEW hints for a PEACEFUL, QUIET, and yes, quite ENJOYABLE Night on one's own in their home:
1. Get that book that you always were interested in reading and never had the time ... and yes, SIT DOWN and READ that book!
2. Find some 'oldies but goodies' in the Discount DVD Bins at your local retailer ... and put them play. These can be anything -- and the more offbeat the better. NOTHING like a good belly-laugh at the expense of the actors ... the sorry story line/plot, or the 'special effects'!
3. Go through the pantry ... make S'mores!
4. Pop some popcorn ... have a Weenie roast on your Patio Grill, just sit out and enjoy the sounds of nature ...
5. A comforting HOT BATH ... (yes, it is silly, but so relaxing!)
6. Pull out your old vinyls ... CDs, whatever .. and this is the TIME to practice your 'moves'!
7. FORGET The chores for one night ... let them be. SO great to SIT DOWN and just RELAX ....

I have them very regular. I usually end up on the computer. It can get boring and lonely though.
