If my house is the first house on the street why is it number 11 and not 1.

That is a good question...I look at addresses every day at work and I never saw a one digit address...its just one of those things that make you go hmmmmmm?

I guess you haven't been to Maryland because there are many 1 addresses around. Especially in Baltimore.

I don't know where the many digits come from though. My street is only about 4 years old, it is about 100 yards long and there are about 20 townhouses but all houses are 4 digit numbers.

Your on block one house number one, that is why your 11. In some towns your house would be 101 or 1001. They all mean the same thing block one, house one.

I must just be where you live because I see addresses with the number one all the time when I enter data into our mainframe at work, I have also seen it on houses when I am driving around neighbourhoods.

Because the people that lived there before moved and took it with them.
