I've removed plenty of stitches myself, even from my eyelid (the doc missed one). I'm not really a big fan of doctors, so I tend to avoid them when I can. Just clip on one side of the knot and pull it thru. You may need tweezers. It's easy but...be careful.

Absolutely! As long as the stitches have been in place for at least 5 days, and that it was a superficial cut (not involving tendons or nerves). I've removed stitches from a couple of people myself, so I know it's no problem. Just be sure to disinfect the scissors - as well as the stitches - with rubbing alcohol or hand disinfectant. It might be handy to disinfect a pair of tweezers, too, in order to grab the "knot" of the stitch and lift it up gently so that the scissors slides easily under each stitch before you clip it. Then, just drag it out - knot first, of course. Cover the area with a bandaid afterwards.

Yes, you need to go to a doctor. It is important that he/she asseses the wound for proper healing, and signs of infection. Even if it is only a small cut, an infection that goes untreated can cost you your whole thumb. So be smart and let the professionals handle it.

Yeah but that doctor should look at it first to determine if it healed correctly.

Naw, do it yourself! I have taken them out of my face when I had a mole removed. Just be cautious!
