I love going barefoot, and I sometimes walk barefoot down my street wearing only a T -- shirt and a pair of cutoff blue jeans . Would YOU be willing to put on a T -- shirt and a pair of cutoff blue jeans and walk barefooted down the street ? One rule I have is that everyone who sees you has to be able to see that you're barefooted . Would you walk down the street barefooted ? How many of you have actually done this ?

I haven't worn footwear for over ten years. Going barefoot is very healthy and comfortable.

Injury is unlikely; I never divert my step no matter how much glass I see, and I get a tiny splinter maybe once a year, never had a cut, never had the slightest splinter indoors. In the rare case of a more serious injury, Tetanus has had a vaccine since the 1920's that everyone who's even remotely active in the garden, with animals (including pets) or elsewhere outdoors should keep up to date, there are other ways of catching it apart from stepping on a rusty nail barefoot.

Disease is unlikely to enter the body through the skin, as long as you don't put your feet up on the table or lick your toes you're less likely to catch something from the (granted, more visible) dirt on your soles than from the (less visible but not less present) dirt on your hands that you pick up from door knobs, shopping carts, money and railings. Those surfaces are touched by many other people, so there are loads of germs on them, and it's with your hands that you are more likely to transfer them to your face or food where they can enter your body.

Parasites are unlikely too, the hookworm has been pretty much gone from the South since modern plumbing has replaced the outhouses and never was a problem in cooler climates.

In spite of persistent myths there are NO health laws requiring shoes, insurance companies don't require or even recommend footwear for customers, and there are NO laws against driving barefoot. Even the myths seem to be specifically an American thing; here in the Netherlands I've never even seen a store that has a 'no shoes, no shirts, no service' sign, nor on my trips to Belgium & Scotland.

I go barefoot nearly everywhere except for school. I am 15yrs old. I always walk barefoot through the city. I live in Melbourne, Australia. I don't just walk barefoot down the street i go to shopping centres and supermarkets barefoot. Just a few days ago i went into the city on the train to go to the MCG and walked through the city spending the whole day barefoot.

Sure, I walk barefoot all the time. Its healthier and way more comfortable to be barefoot. For those who think there are germs just waiting to attack your bare feet out in public, you've been very mis-informed. I've been a full time barefooter in the Chicago area for a year now, and I also know of over 1100 members from the group listed below who are barefooters as well, and we never catch any desieses by being barefoot. I drive, work, shop, dine, hike, and many other activities barefoot and my feet have actually never felt stronger and healthier. I love barefooting. Its fun.

I just did walk down the street in cutoffs and a T shirt, but I wore flip flops. There are too many twigs and stuff like shards of glass on my street. I like going barefoot if I know I won't be injured. I've been told my feet are pretty!

I have walked down the street barefooted, and personally have no problem with it, I just don't like shoes, I can see where some people would say that it is disgusting, there are ALOT of germs on the sidewalk, ranging anywhere from urine, chew (chewing tobacco) Used gum, rotting food....ect ect...

In addition to that, you could step on glass or a nail or some other sharp object, and get it imbedded in your foot, and since it was on the ground, possibly get an infection from it. As sad as it may be, unless you live out in the country, it is probably best to keep your shoes on when you are outside.

Yes. I might spare the world the sight of me in cutoffs but my feet look OK.

Of course, the weather would have to be warm and the street nice and smooth.

I am in California, most of the time the sidewalk is hot, but when I was younger and spent a good amount of time at the beach I would go days without wearing shoes.
If I am home, my shoes are off. OH and when at a park with soft grass my feet are very much at home without shoes.

I haven't had a chance to do this yet, but it definitely sounds like fun. I agree, being barefoot is great. Too bad society is so infatuated with shoes. Oh well.

I did this as a child and burnt the bottoms of my feet.
Arizona....summer days
Pool side, down the street running as fast as we could, to the next location.....

Something I avoid as an adult..
Unless....I am at the beach or in my own back yard...grass and toes go well.

Best wishes
