Well, it is in the year 1776 when the declaration of the independence was signed and made known to all men.It was made by statesmen in a meeting in Philadelphia, once the Pennsylvania State House now the Independence Hall and with this act, they have severe the ties to the British Crown...
But before this was done, there was some studies and deliberation regarding this matter. That is considered as the rough draft of the declaration. This has capture the people sentiments and called this effort as the ":Century of Law Making for a New Nation".

Thomas Jefferson signed the Declaration of Independence when it was first accepted by the Congress present on Aug 2, 1776. Most people believe that it was signed on the date it was presented July 4th 1776.
The Lee Resolution of Independence was the first document initiating independence from England was signed on July 2, 1776. That forced a prompt submission of the Declaration for formal review.
It is believed that John Hancock, in a dramatic move of acceptance, signed the Declaration of Independence the afternoon it was submitted for review July 4, 1776. The majority of the signers, including Thomas Jefferson signed it on Aug. 2, 1776
The last (56th) signature was Thomas McKean of Delaware in September 1781.
