Yes, but I think that if the parents are going to pop their kids on the mouth, then they'd better not be cursing themselves.

It's a bit much to wash their mouths out with soap, but if the word is fairly bad, a light pop on the mouth would be okay. But adults should watch their language around children, since children will just repeat what adults say, since that's how children learn.

Father first.
Most moms prefer that their children not be exposed to foul language.
Most men curse more than women (on average).
So, wash out Dad's mouth with soap, give him a good pop, and then go get junior.

Um, punished, yes. But in those ways could be viewed as child abuse. At least the "popped on the mouth" one.I mean, there are so many other ways to punish a misbehaved child.
For example and/or suggestions. No TV and/or video games. No hanging out with friends or going on dates. Standing and/or kneeling in a corner always worked before parents became so irresponsible. THREATENING to wash their mouths out with soap also worked I believe. Staying in their rooms, also with no TV or video always worked. No desert after dinner I think may have worked. And of course theres the parents not swearing, cursing, cusing, or whatever anyone calls it, wouldn't hurt. And not letting them see and/or watch TV shows or movies with swears would help too.
So does that answer your question?

Do you really think hitting a child is the answer? Hitting children, in my opinion, does not teach them the lessons you're trying to teach, but rather that it's justifiable to hit. Washing a child's mouth out with soap teaches the same. I remember my father trying to do that to me when I was a kid and mouthing off to him. I ended up throwing up all over him and it wasn't an effective punishment anyway. That was the only time they tried that. The way my parents finally realized they could teach me to have respect for them was to show me respect in the first place and not try to dominate me. Oh yeah, when my parents resorted to spanking me as a child, I hit them back. It was self-defense, the way my childlike mine reasoned it.

I got the soap a few times when I was a kid, the best way to keep kids from cursing is for adults to stop cursing if front of them. I was in a fast food joint last week and a grown man in front of me was cursing up a storm and I was the only one who said something.

Warning! Do not ever put soap in any ones mouth. A woman did that to her son, he was allergic to the soap and he died from the reaction.

Soap because both the taste (and the lesson) will linger... but its really the adults who do the cursing that need punishment... the children just need to know that its wrong...
