AP classes, including those offered for history, are supposedly more difficult than honors courses, but at my school many students thought that the honors courses were more difficult since the curriculum was up to the teachers and not the AP organization. Anyway, everyone except one embarrassed kid got fives. You should take AP. You should load up on AP courses, because it looks great on a transcript, it shows motivation, and you can graduate college early and take more advanced classes early. For instance, I will take sophomore biology and chemistry as a freshman.

AP World History is typically more rigorous. It probably involves more reading, a more advanced textbook written at the college level, a heavier work load, and more challenging classwork. You should definitely take AP over Honors if you're up for the challenge. AP gives you the opportunity to take a nationally administered exam in May, and if you do well on it, you can potentially get college credit for it. AP classes are generally more attractive on your high school transcript; colleges like to see that you're taking the most advanced course load available to you.
Honors World tends to be little more than the basic high school history course. There's really not much to say about it.

A good guideline to decide on would be your history grade. If you barely pulled off a B in your last history course, you probably shouldn't. If you got a B+ or higher, you can probably do AP World History and get a reasonably good grade. You know that AP World History will get you college credit at many institutions. Also, you will have to do a lot more reading and writing in the AP class--your writing skills should improve. AP is certainly more rigorous than honors.

I have this question as well. I'm starting as a freshman next school year, and I've read a lot about how rigorous the AP World History is. I get high A's in all of my classes as a middle schooler, but I'm starting to think that doesn't really matter. I study well, and I'm usually good at taking notes, but I do NOT, as of now, have much prior knowledge of world history. I feel like younger students who take the class are prodigies or something, whereas, although I consider myself a good student, I have no clue when the Vietnam War was, or who the president was at the time. My current social studies teacher says I could do it, but I really don't know. HELP ME.

AP World History. It will look great on your transcript for when you apply to college. Colleges like to see that you can handle a rigorous course load. Honors classes don't mean much to college admissions.Just be sure you study and do well on the AP Exam for the class, 3 or above is best.

AP world history gives you an opportunity to earn college credit. To earn the college credit, you have to take the AP exam at the end of the year. I think there is a fee to the exam. Honors, its just more harder than regular but it is not as rigorous as AP world history.

Yes, AP is harder and gives the chance for credit. It's kind of like boot camp because almost everyone struggles and becomes closer than in a regular class. Do you like history, like to read, hope to travel? These are all reasons to go AP.

AP world history is definitely harder. and there is the option of earning college credit in may. there is the AP test. i beleive it is one of the easier AP history tests, but still difficult. take AP world. make use of your sophomore year and familiarize yourself with the AP system. its definitely worth it, coming from someone who took AP european in sophomore year, got a 4 and As. it is not that hard, really. just study alot. both should be weighted, but AP, in the end, will look much better on your transcript.

You see, the truth is you can't get any real help from yahoo answers on this, because I completely disagree with Chandler. I was a great student in both H Chem and WHAP, and, if anything, Chem was the difficult one and World History was easy. It depends, of course, on what you're interested in, though. I loved World History and I abhor Chemistry. But part of is also asking yourself what you've been good at in the past. Are good at remembering historical facts or solving science questions, or both?

I just spoke with my daughter who had the opportunity to take either of these -and she said that AP courses are those which you can take a test at the end of the year and obtain college credit for the course - Honors- is a more accelerated program in high school to encourage more independant reading, study and community based learning opportunities.
