There's no way to know if a particular location will be hit by a hurricane or tropical storm in a given year, so you should always be prepared. This is true for anybody who lives in a region that is prone to hurricane strikes. In the United States, that specifically means the entire coast of the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the entire eastern seaboard, especially from about Baltimore, MD, southwards. Storms can strike further north, but the risk is much less significant and the unusual track of such storms is usually known well enough in advance for people to prepare only when necessary.

no one can tell when and where the next hurricane is going to hit. I too live on the coast (below Houston) and wonder when it will come down on those of us on the coast. you just never know. Still, stay prepared during the hurricane season. do all the normal things but keep prepared. That means you should be ready at a moments notice to evacuate or to sit tight for up to 2 weeks without electricity or water.
If you have lived on the gulf coast long you know that any tropical storm can lead to loss of electricity and water supplies. stock up on food, batteries, water, and emergency supplies. Keep your car ready to go in the season.
It ain't quite snow for Christmas but it is the coastal hurricane season.
