First, I read the Government has paid out billions in subsidies to farmers who have been dead for over five years. Then I read that my Government just sold spare parts for the F 14 fighter jet, to the public! And the only country that still us uses the F 14, is Iran.

The people Americans voted into office are not stupid they are just totally involved in their own group and personal agendas.
The watch dog group that reported what you now know will create a temporary blame game among polititians running for office and used as a political tool to gain support. Watch how people fall for it because they will be party people.
So, to answer your question, it is not the government that is stupid. It is the same 60% of our population who keep voting these clowns into office.
Oh, the above poster is correct. The money is not paid to a farmer, it is paid to a corporation or entity. The problem is the poor little rural farmer gets nothing andhe is the one who needs the subsidies if their crops are destroyed or not used. This original bill was created for the big corporate farmer who put many little ones out of business. Sorry, our government put the little rural farmer out of business to make way for corporations, again......

If our Government paid out subsidies to dead farmers then there is no way the dead men could cash the checks. If others cashed them then they are liable for prosecution. There are always problems like these in paperwork in any government. As far as the F-14 parts, i am sure Iran could get parts through russia if nowhere else, besides the fact that the F-14 is outdated and we have faster smarter more well equipped fighter jets now. so Iran having some F-14s doesnt make much of a difference. If we go to war with Iran its on the ground that we will have the problems not in the air.
To answer your question though, being as our Government is SUPPOSED to be run by the people then i fear that yes by and large the American public is a bit ignorant and arrogant.

A subsidy is paid to a company or corporation. The owner or president may be dead but if the organization is still viable, then nothing wrong has been done. However, if the business died with the farmer, then there is fraud and the government will make this determination and get the money back. We just don't hear that side of the stories.
As for selling F14 parts, why not to Iran. We sell them gasoline and other materials. They are not threatening us directly and if we don't sell them what they need someone else will. Why not get some of our money back that we spend with them on oil.

Just because someone makes more than you doesnt mean you should take away their money and give it to you. thats called socialism. and medicine does actually cost a lot to make, some is overpriced yes but so is mcdonalds you just gotta deal 3. what the **** are you talking about? umm welfare runs out after a certain amount of time depending on the state listen, you cant blame the national government for medicine or welfare, those both fall under the responsibility of the state, which is why national health care was so controversial. why do you think there was romnicare in massachusettes but no where else? you gotta look up your facts buddy, and talk to your congressman if you got issues

Any organization that's big enough to run a country will have problems like this. And anyone who doesn't like the leader will lay them all at the feet of that leader. It happens. If you think you can do better, I hear there's an election coming in 16 months.
