I think the word fear is grossly overused and exaggerated throughout the quote. It is arrogant to think peoples' opinions on these matters are based on fear.

Gravel speaks the truth only to empower you, I was an Obama supporter but then I had to ask myself if the money Obama gets from his supporters that pay $500 and more for a donation...I realized that he is not supporting people like me. I can afford maybe $10 and I have a hard time believing that 36 Million was raised from people like me. Gravel is right FOLLOW the MONEY. That's where your candidates true interests are shown. Gravel doesn't fear anyone and doesn't what you to be afraid or fearful. The man has nerves of steel!! VOTE GRAVEL 08"

I certainly can't argue with him because fear is a very powerful emotion, a survival skill actually. A little fear is good... in moderation. That's how it is with good things. I can certainly see it being used immoderately by this administration and in the campaign, so it's refreshing to see Mike Gravel acknowledge it.
I remember, shortly after 9/11, hearing "It didn't work, we're not afraid!" and "We will not live in fear!" spoken in loud, proud and angry voices. Where are those voices now? What are they saying instead now? Why was it OK to feel that way then, but it's not OK now??

Cassi, right above, put it perfectly.
I've been supporting Gravel since April. Hes exactly right in that quote and in 99% of what of he says. He takes the time to think things through and look at the true causes of problems and issues. Look at his record and his plans, they cut right to the chase. I liked Obama in the beginning, but now I'm finding it harder and harder to trust him. He dodges and dances around questions constantly. Not to mention that I took Gravel's advice and "followed the money", and Obama, while he may not be taking PAC money, is taking all kinds of other money.
Heres a short clip from a recent Democratic debate with both Gravel and Obama answering a question.

I definitely agree with this sentiment. Fear has been instilled in America since the colonization. Our founding father's first fears were Indians and black people.

I am a Democrat if Mike Gravel would win as nominee , that is one time I would stay home from the polls, because he is the biggest mouth smart as*, I have ever seen. Think how it would be to be married to him and have to sit around listening that mouth night after night, I'd run off with another man. You couldn't divorce him because he would never shut up and the judge would throw it out of court.

I *love* Gravel... despite that I, too, am an Obama supporter. Then again, Obama also talks about us not being blue states or red states, but UNITED states, so both men give messages of hope.

Fear is a necessary part of government. If we don't have fear in a government theres no point in having one. Lets all just run amuck eh?

he's absolutely right. they use fear to control and divide us. at the you tube debate Sen. Gravel said voting for Hillary Clinton will just be voting for more of the same. He said we need to wake up and vote for someone with the country's best interests at heart, and not someone in Wall Streets pockets. I applaud Sen. Gravel.
