if i do use neooffice and create a presentation for school can i save it on to a flashdrive from my mac and open it on a pc?

NeoOffice (a port of OpenOffice) is free. Just download it after you get your Mac.

You can also use Google Docs for free.

Yes, just save it as a .ppt file. In the near future, Google is going to add a presentation program to Google Docs, so you'll also have that as an option too.
