Chivalry was the code of behaviour of the Arthurian Knights. It involved respect/politeness towards women and defeated foes etc. Femininsts don't like it because they see it as somehow degrading to women. It basically involves standing aside to allow a lady to go first, holding doors for ladies, giving up your seat to a lady, Assisting a lady in difficulty, walking on the outside of the pavement ( to protect the lady from mud/water thrown up by passing carriages, holding a chair at the dining table for a lady to sit down, etc etc. Terribly politically incorrect, but a much nicer way to live. Chivalry is dead because men don't do it any more. Chivalry is not dead cos some men, myself included, still do it. Hope this helps.

Originally chivalry meant "code of behavior/ethics for knights, based on telling the truth, keeping one's word and protecting those weaker than oneself." Later on it came to mean courtesy toward women. There was always an element of putting one's idealized lady love on a pedestal and being faithful to her. Now you tell me whether you think chivalry is dead or not.

Chivalry is dead refers to the fact that many men aren't as respectful of women as they once were. Less opening of doors, giving up of seats, carrying heavy objects etc.

It means that the person is confused. Whenever someone says that "something IS . . . " and then say that it ISN'T, it is a clear indication of a state of confusion with the particular subject.
