If things continue to improve for the next 16 months -- then the Democrats will have to campaign on some other issue than the Iraq war to get public support.

Lest we forget...the Republicans talked about a war in Iraq lasting 10 - 20 years. Face facts it is not getting better and the latest dire news is that an orderly withdrawal will take 3 - 4 years! We can't even hotfoot it out of that bloody quagmire.
The Democrats are going to win everything big in 2008. The American people hate this war and the Republican administration. When there is a real democratic majority in Congress there will be action on health care, ending the war and I hope eliminating corporate person-hood.

First of all, some things are better in Iraq.... the news NEVER shows the good things that are going on over there, it's just always the bad. I agree that it is far far from being over, but let's 'pretend' it is.... and now the Dem's must now win the election with something new. Well how about better health care for all Americans, how about securing Social Security so we can all collect what we have paid throughout our lives, how about cutting back on welfare and making those who make a career out of it get off their butts and get a job instead of making baby after baby so WE can give them a larger monthly check.... how about taking care of our elderly people better.... how about making it safer for our children to go to school..... how about giving our children a better education and help them learn instead of just pushing them through to the next grade if they aren't ready.... how about stop raising our taxes to pay for 'their' raises-houses-vacations-remodeling etc. How about hiring more agents to track down all the pedophiles that are killing innocent children... the list could go on and on and on......... if we don't speak up...... they won't listen. If they don't listen.... then don't vote for them!!!

This would be the rally cry for 08'
"Thanks to our recently elected Democratic controlled Congress & Senate, and the new direction we instituted in Iraq, we are now starting to see positive results".

If things are really getting better in Iraq? Did you read the news today? The Sunnis quit the governemt. Anyway, I think Bush has screwed us on so many other levels than Iraq that the next election is the Democrats' to lose.

If things are getting better in Iraq NOW, it's too early.

They will have plenty of time to manuever into getting credit for it.

'we forced Bush to change direction'....'we got rid of Rummy'...that sort of thing.

If the troops came home, Pelosi would be in the front of the parade waving her gavel.

This will have currency for the Republicans for about an hour after the dems have no choice but to admit it.

if things are getting better in Iraq (they're not, but if they are), then super. but that doesn't change the grievous mistakes that have already been made by this administration or the shattered confidence it will leave americans with come '08. my opinion? a republican is going to have to be pretty supportive of change to be elected.

Big trouble. At this point their entire election strategy hinges on losing the war. They tried to legislate it out but lost. So, they are pulling for a loss in order to line their own political pockets. There is a long way to go to Nov. 2008 and the tide's a turnin'.

Judging by the 70 people killed last night in car bombs and a portion of the govt quitting, I would have to refute your claim that things are getting better in Iraq.
