Need to clarify exactly what your asking about, as they could be two totally different careers. An A&R representative in the music industry is a person who searches for and signs new talent to their company's label. The A & R stand for Artists & Repertiore. They are the link between the artist and the record label.
Now if you referring to A/R as accounts receivable, that is a person in the accounting department of a company that is responsible for collecting the cash for sales from customers and recording it in the receivables sub-ledger.

It's not only in the music business. It's accounts receivable. It's being responsible for keeping the records of who has paid, how much, paying the bills owed by the company and general accounting sometimes. Depends on the company what all is expected.

A/R stands for accounts receivable. This job requires the person to maintain the amounts due from customers, send bills out to customers, and record any amounts received from customers.
