Hello

I have bought a second engine for my car from a heavily damaged car but I wonder how to store it.

I plan to remove used oil and putting in new synthetic oil, plugging with paper the various openings of the engine and building a wood support before putting it in a dry place. Any further advice from experts ? thanks

I have been researching the same problem. Here is what I have so far:

Take the spark plugs out, oil the cylinder wall with LPS-3 oil (some type of heavy oil a machine shop uses) LPS-3 manufacturer says it should protect the metal for 2 years. My engine rebuilding book says you can use WD-40 for short term storage.

Over Fill the engine with oil.

Store the engine on engine stand, up side down direction so that all the oil would submerge the cylinder head to protect all the cam seals from cracking. Enough oil must be added to submerge all engine components in oil (all the way up to the crankshaft)

Cover up intake and exhaust holes using shop towels.

Cover up top of the engine using large garbage bag

dont waste your money on the sythentic oil, make sure you do cover all openings, also put a fogging oil in the cylinders, it will keep the rust ridge from forming. deffinatly keep it in a dry place because if water gets in the block and freezes it could be a boat anchor

squirt oil in the spark plug holes and turn the crank a few times to coat the cylinders
