I heard that you could fill up a bucket with water and dishwashing detergent or other liquids. Apparently, the mosquitoes will lay the eggs, but will not hatch. Thanks!

The BEST way is to eliminate ALL standing water around your area. They will find the least little stagnant puddle and try to breed in it. So keep any water in bird baths or such, fresh and preferably moving. Check your gutters often for stagnant water after rainstorms. Just hunt around and find all those places after it rains that accumulate water -- and dump them out.

Check this site, about 1/3 down, for a list of things that homeowners can do to help keep them down.

I visited Thailand for the first time last year. Thailand has a very hot and humid climate and they have tons of mosquitos. They had a very interesting solution for the mosquitos. They all have large decorative containers of water with water lilies in it and with Japanese Koi (sp) or Goldfish. The containers almost look like large deep bird baths. The mosquitos lay their eggs in the water and the fish eat them immediately. All the houses have them near their patios. It's very unique, pretty, and organic.

eliminate standing water from your property,
Mosquito Magnets are well worth the money, they attract and trap any mosquitoes flying around. Even though your property may not support the hatching of mosquitoes, they could just as easily come from other parts in the neighborhood.

If the female is pregnent she will get a very large stomach and devolep a black dot and will be chased by the male. With Guppies they dont lay egggs they give live birth so the male will fertilize the eggs in the female guppies stomach. He will do this by nipping at her anal fin wich is the bottom fin and is slightly back from the stomach. After the fry leave the mothers stomach the other fish will imediatly eat them but one or two get lucky. Try to fill 3/4 of the aquarium with rocks/plants to make sure most of them survive.

just get rid of the standing water, they wont bother trying to hatch, and if you want to go outside and stay outside, set up those torches that keep them away.
