Now that Gange has been traded to the Red Sox, who will be closer for them? Gange or Papelbon?

I have Papelbon in one of my leagues and I am wondering if I should try to trade him now, because he might be spiltting closing time with Gange, meaning that he won't get as many saves.

So who will be the Red Sox closer? And should I try to trade Papelbon ASAP?

Thanks!

If i remember that league, you will need to trade him for another closer if you did that. What happened was that once they traded for Gagne, they made it easier to get to Papelbon. Papelbon is still the closer for their team and is going to continue to be until the end of this year at least.

My feeling is that Gagne will be used as a set-up man in the 8th with Okajima and Danny M used as guys in the 7th. This move was only to help their bullpen get to Papelbon.

It says stuff out Mark also, but the first part is about Papelbon.

Personal feeling. If the Red sox decide to re-sign Gagne after this year is up, he will become the closer, and then Papelbon will become the starter he wanted to be at the beginning of this year

Good Luck!!

Papelbon is still the closer. I read an article that says Gagne will pick up some saves to give Papelbon a break. When the playoffs roll around, the Sox will have a solid 1-2 punch with Gagne setting up Papelbon.

Take that for what it's worth.

I just wonder why the Sox picked up Gagne. Was it to prevent him going to NY? Is it for relief depth in the playoffs? Papelbon is good and Gagne hasn't really proven himself to be the consistent closer he was for LA since his surgery.

I'd hang on to Papelbon for at least another week and see how the Sox use their closers before making a trade.

The acquired Gange to be a set-up guy for Papelbon. He'll be a 6, 7 or 8 and as far as I know, the two players won't be splitting closing duties.

Papelbon for this season. What picking up Gagne does is provide them with insurance if Papelbon gets hurt, blows a save or needs some rest. Hold on to him.

But if you have Okajima, dump him for Soria, if he's available in your league.

Papelbon will still most likely be the full time closer. I guess there is a chance they try to move him to SP, but I wouldn't trade him unless you see what happens first.

i am a DIE HARD RED SOX FAN. i know everything they want and are going to do. they traded for Eric Gagne because they wanted him as a setup man for Papelbon. Jonathon Papelbon will remain the starter for this eason.

keep papelbon, he will continue to get the majority of save opportunities... Gagne will be the primary set-up man and will take the save opportunities when papelbon needs rest...
