That is a broad statement but I have found it to be true on several occasions.

Canadians don't hate Americans. While there are some exceptions to the rule to that statement it is for the most part true.

Canadians are a genteel folk. Wanting to help out people. As a result canadians treat all people with courtesy.

However that being said, there are a lot of Canadians out there that do not like American ignorance and the way most Americans think that the world revolves around the USA and themselves.

As a simple example, ask a Canadian about the distance between Dallas and New York and you can get an good aproximate answer (after you convert it from the metric measurement). However if you ask an American what the distance is between Calgary and Toronto, and they will have no idea. Again this is a general statement and does not apply to everyone, but as averages go this has shown to be true.

And no you can not cross the border in July with skis on the top of your car and expect to go skiing right away ;-)

I don't think that any country hates the American people, it is the U.S. government that is the subject of a lot of the bad feelings. U.S.A sometimes comes across as the school bully informing all that "this is the way it is done, because I said so " and of course the U.S media, and journalists have some responsibility in this world wide discontent with the States. The leaders of the country sometimes get into the spot light and emit some sort of bad light. It is a pity because American people are just as ordinary as everyone else on the planet. They want what is best for their kids and family. They want to feel safe in their homes. They want a good job that will allow them to provide the above for them and their loved ones...just like the rest of us.

Canadians ARE Americans.

America is a continent, not a country.
Unlike the United States (apparently) Canada doesn't think it's the ONLY country in America.

My Canadian friend doesn't hate me!
I think that statement is as shallow & as misleading as any other racist, classist, sexist, &/or derrogatory statement ever made.
Please, America, let's try to stop acting so defensive, therefore looking exactly like what we believe the world's perception of us is. Try to think of individual people in other nations, not so much as a mob of people, uncapable of having independent thoughts.

That hasn't been my experience at all. I have always been treated most graciously in Canada. Your question is quite a generalization. I'm curious, is it based on your own experience or on something you have heard or read?
