we are visiting jaipur for two days. We have additional two -three days . we would like to know which is the better place to visit(jaisalmer or udaipur) to make the trip a memorable one.

Jaisalmer is more rustic. Udaipur has moved on with time. Jaisalmer is still the Rajasthan of the olden days.

udaipur is a much larger city. Their is a little more to see but to me jaisalmer was much more fun. the Views and surroundings are tremendous and the Fort is amazing. The city is dominated by the Jaisalmer Fort. Unlike most forts in India, the Jaisalmer Fort is a living fort. There are shops, hotels, age old havelis (homes) inside the fort area. So there is this very cool maze of Guest houses and shops with great views of the city and desert from all sides of the fort. You are also close to the dunes on the outskirts of the city. Many adventures are available and I did a sunset Camel ride that was really fun. I also saw a travel show on TV about a month after I was there. I swear the guy in the show was going to the exact places that I had been when I was there.
So if it was up to me it would be Jaisalmer.

Whahoooo I wish I could go with you.
They are both very good. Udaipur is a bigger city with more restaurants and accommodations and the fort is magnificent.
Jaisalmer on the other hand is my all time favorite fort, it is so remote and one really get the feel of Rajasthan.
If you go to Jaisalmer, right at the entrance up the ramp you will encounter a musician playing his ancient instrument, that is TUCHARAM BOPHA, please listen to him for a minute and give him a dollar or two. In 2000 I recorded half an hour of his music for a fee. Later in the day we went for lunch. He and his uncle KALURAM BOPHA are famous. Thanks, tell him Henry send you
