Baseball Players are Cowards.
Team sports require fidelity, to the sports and players owe it to each other.
This whole thing about Bonds would go away, if a current or recently retired player spoke out like Canseco has.
Steroids in baseball was like speeding on the highway, many or most people were doing it, b/c they knew they couldn't get caught.
This would all go away and this would just go down as the Era of Performance enhancers.
How does going back in time to find out if ONE PLAYER was doing it going to help the game, it would serve baseball better to investigate everyone or no-one.
Selective prosecution is not what this country is supposed to be about.

Canseco and Cam were retired
Giambi and Sheff, were called to testify before a grand jury.
I want a current player to talk about the pre-testing period.

No one will ever really speak out while they are an active player... it would ruin their career even worse than the allegations. Some players may be willing to speak out after their careers because they are no longer playing and under high media and fan pressures. And mentioning Canseco is horrible and associating him with fidelity is incorrect. Canseco spoke out too late, only for the money, and comprised previous teamates and players reputations.
but i agree that everyone needs to be tested no random drung screenings.
how bout 2 mandatory random drug tests a year for every player... shouldn't be a problem if non of them are cheating.

The question of the hour. Wow, it's a good one. So my career is a MLB player, cool. It's hard to imagine myself in that position with all I know now. But I would like to think of myself as someone with values and principles. I would say "no" But I have the knowledge of what it does, and realize that that it can be a career and character killer. But what if it was several years ago? What if I had practically a whole team taking steroids right in front of me and saw the accolades and the long balls, the ferocious pitching? I imagine it would be tough to see all these guys playing beyond their abilities, making the money and not personally getting caught up in it. No excuses for any players that do or did, but you bring up an excellent point. "What would you do?"

Jose Canseco did, and blew this thing wide open, and everyone who does something extraordinary now will definitely be marked with a label saying "I must be doing performance enhancing drugs because I did something that noone else did this year". Pshh these guys are MAJOR LEAGUERS! They are paid to do extraordinary things, some better than others. It did not help McGwires chances of going into the Hall, and he probably wont ever get there because these allegations arose when he was hitting 50-70 a year. Barry Bonds is a classic example, look at him 15 years ago and he looked like Eddie Murphy, now he looks like bulky George Foreman packing a huge punch, but with his HR 'power'. You would figure not only hitters, but also pitchers use steriods. Are we not forgetting Jason Grimsley? Hello, you look at some of these guys a few years ago and now, you look at their IP, you look at the velocity, you NEED to figure that MAYBE these guys might be doing something that noone has caught yet, people everyday are finding new undetectable roids that they give to the best players. Of course a special talent such as Ryan Howard and possibly Joel Zumaya would be in the midst of those conversations because they are people of interest, their talent is hard to come by very often. I bet Bud Selig has a list of people he believes do steroids, and do extensive and probably unnecessary tests, but hey its part of the whole 'clean up baseball' routine. Even conventional talks with the media, maybe even after a hard loss will push things out of wack, even if you hinted of even someone remotely sounding like they are juicing. Im sorry to say, but sports players egos are larger than life, maybe after they retire and get into the HOF they will admit to it, but certainly not now, I do not foresee anyone, I repeat ANYONE, admitting to it as of now, unless they can get some" /benefit/ " for it.

There is no such thing as team fidelity anymore, I believe its all for themselves. The steroid quesion will not be definetly answered untill the commisioner comes down on the abusers. Until then all HR records are subject to question in my opinion, or should be. The days of a player caring for his team lasts as long as the money with that team is good.

Actually both Jose Canseco and the late Ken Caminiti did.
Of course Canseco admitted to it to sell a scandalous book he wrote. Caminiti admitted to it in a moment of remorse not long before he died from a drug overdose.

they won't because they can be kicked out of MLB plus they could be taken out of the hall of fame and no baseball player would ever do that since that's what their all working for.
you would think that everyone not just baseball players but all sport hero's would say to themselves Hey I'm not only going to ruin my career, but my name and my body by doing these drugs! but they don't players in the 60's 70' and 80's never had this problem because they weren't really trying to break records they we're just going out there and doing their jobs to entertain us

The whole thing about Bonds is that he is poised to break the most hallowed record in American sports. And, he probably cheated to get there.
That's the issue that people are having a problem with. And, that's why they are "selectively prosecuting" him.

They probably never will, because they want to protect their large egos. Unless of course, they really wanted some publicity (*cough cough*, Jose Canseco *cough cough*).
