I'm saying this team is way better. The team in 2004 got on a great run at the end of the season but they by far weren't the best team in the league that year. Not that having the best team in the league means your going to win the World Series or anything.

I don't think it even close. The pitching is so much better now. The line up is more complete and they have the best winning % at the moment. And look Kelvin is a Yankee fan and agrees.

The Red Sox were lacking pitching in 2004 but have it all this year. Not only are they better now but I am hard pressed to think of a Red Sox team that was better in the recent past.

Wow.
Much different.
They only have about 6 of the same guys, Curt Shilling, Manny, Papi, Jason Veritek ,Tim Wakefeild and Doug Maribelli.
Both teams went on streaks win a few and lose a few.
This year the standings look better, always above the Yankees.
But in 2004 it was to win the ACLS and the the World Series.
Papi and Manny aren't hitting up to par, this year. But the rest of our line up is pretty solid all the way down. Even the subs.
Our pitching is doing very well and came through in 2004 as well.

Now. You don't have to be a Yankee fan to agree with. Common sense tells you that this is a better team than the 2004 team.

This year they are better.
Now they have much better pitching with DiceK Matsusaka, Josh Beckett, and Kurt Shilling (when gets healthy). Not to mention they have the best bullpen in the mlb and Popovan to close and now they got Eric Gange to set it up for him. Pitching wins games and they got pitching now and to show for it have the best record. In 04 they were good, but just barely got by. Now they are cruising through. Their batters are all doing great scoring much more runs than 04.
All of this coming from a Yankees fan.

They were better in 2004, for the simple reason that in 2004 they made the Playoffs, and they're not going to make the Playoffs this year. The Yankees will win the East by 4 games and Cleveland will win the Wild Card.
Yeah, Eric Gagne's gonna do your bums a WHOLE lot of good when he goes back on the disabled list.

This year they have a much better team then 2004.Granted 2004 was one of the best years in my life, I have to agree with you. There PITCHING could win them a chance to play in October and go further. We have phenomenal pitching and a amazing bull pen. What this team has already done this year, I'm so happy to call myself a Red Sox Fan, there incredible.

Its debatable whether or not this team is better than the 2004 team. This year's pitching staff is certainly better. But this year's batting lineup doesn't have the thunder it had in 2004. David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez are both not having a good season so far by their own standards. But despite that, they keep pace in winning thanks to their pitching and the excellent management by Terry Francona.

Now. The 2004 team had to pull off a miracle for this even to be a question.

I'd have to say this team is better then the 2004 team. After all, they are in 1st place now, and 2nd in 04.

2004 was better. Yeah they were in 2nd place that year and this year they are in first but I think that has to do more with the Yankees terrible start than how great they are playing or how good they are. They had more guts and desire in '04, now they think just talent will do it. They are mistaken!
